2018 Visitor Industry Charity Walk – Oahu
Mahalo to the Hawai’i Lodging & Tourism Association – HLTA for hosting the 40th annual Charity Walk statewide! On Oahu, HIDA volunteers and other supporters joined executive director Margaret Higa at the May 19th walk. What a great opportunity to raise awareness of dyslexia and funds while we walked (and ate!) our way through Waikiki — mahalo!

|Mahalo to HIDA’s awesome volunteers for getting up early on Saturday, May 20, to walk the 5.25 mile route in the 2017 Visitor Industry Charity Walk! Team HIDA had a great time enjoying the beautiful scenery, company and ono treats along the way! In total, 17 volunteers joined HIDA’s executive director, Margaret Higa, in walking to raise awareness of dyslexia and funds for non-profits, including HIDA|

The Brigham Young University Hawai’i School of Education hosted a one-day symposium for parents with a focus onself-awareness, self-advocacy and self-empowerment. We were honored to present a session on tips for families of children with dyslexia. Special mahalo to Dr. Barbara Hong, Associate Professor of Special Education at BYUH!
Hawai’i Education Summit – July 9, 2016
Mahalo to Governor David Ige and First Lady Dawn Ige for hosting the Hawai’i Education Summit. The Summit focused on the new opportunities that the ESSA – Every Student Succeeds Act – provides for a future-focused education system in Hawai’i. Among the 1,000 participants were Suzanne Skjold, Executive Director
of Hawai’i Literacy, Margaret Higa, HIDA’s Executive Director and Kawailehua Pakjake, HIDA Board Member.
